White EPDM Rubber Sheet

If you’re looking for food grade material with good resistance to steam and water, white EPDM rubber sheet might be the answer. An acronym for ethylene propylene diene monomer, EPDM is an elastomeric material that holds up well to UV light and ozone, making it as useful outdoors as in.

FDA approved, food grade white EPDM has a long list of uses in food and beverage production, as well as in pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturing. This stems from the combination of a tolerance for water and steam with resistance to alkalis and ketones like acetone.

White EPDM rubber sheet has a useful temperature range of -40° to +225 °F and a Shore A durometer of 60. Elongation is 400%, which shows the superior elasticity and flexibility of this material. Tensile strength is around 780psi, which is typical for many elastomers.

EPDM does have some properties that limit its use in certain applications. Its chemical structure makes it hard to bond to, although it is possible to apply a PSA. In addition, it is attacked by many oils, non-polar solvents and aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbons. That means, in addition to fuels and lubricants, it fares poorly when exposed to chemicals like benzene and methane.
